Review Response ... input needed so I don't blow this
I'm afraid to post this response without getting some input from someone. I really don't want to make a mistake. If you have a minute to read this review and my response (which I have not posted yet) and give me some feedback, I'd be really grateful. Many thanks. Andrea
This is what she wrote:Andrea was a wonderful host. I had a special request due to a last minute move to Boston on Thanksgiving day. She got back to me right away even though it was very very late at night. She helped me with the booking process. Upon arrival, she greeted us and helped us in every way possible. Even offered us home cooked meals because all the restaurants were closed on Thanksgiving night. The place was super cozy. The queen bed was very comfortable (we got the best night of sleep in the PINK Room in all of that weeks time). The bed is right under a skylight that opens and we were able to see the snow falling as we look up from the bed. We were a little worried about being cold at night at first, but the blanket is extremely warm and fluffy. Temperature was never a problem. The house was immaculate and clean, especially the bathroom. The bathrobes are of great quality and very thick and same goes for the towels. The room is small so space can get tight with luggage etc.
This is what I wrote. Should I post it? I generally do not allow dogs but she was in a pickle so I agreed. It was a one night stay for her, her mother and her dog (with a dog crate) They had luggage to live out of suitcases for a month until her things arrived at her new apartment here.
Dear (email hidden)ank you for the lovely review.Because my guests comfort is my top priority, I am so sorry to read that you felt tight with your luggage. The PINK ROOM is, as you know, one room in my house. At 115 square feet, it is a bit above average in size. Because the queen-sized bed is up in the loft though, all of the footage is available for your use. I truly wish I had known, because it would have been so easy to put some of the extra luggage you needed for your move - in another place - so you could have felt uncrowded.I hope I have the opportunity to Host again for you sometime, and that your move, unpacking and adjustment to East coast weather go as you would hope.Thank you again for choosing the PINK ROOM.Andrea

Dear Andrea it seems to me that you went beyond the call of duty as a host and deserve kudos rather than explanation or apologies for your lack of enough space for all that luggage. Save the apologies and bask in the compliments.

Thank you. Does this mean that you think I should just do nothing? I have generally just thanked people privately for the lovely reviews and the only other time I wrote a response was when I got a not so good review. Do you generally write a thank you for every review that you get, as a response?

I concur-- it was a great review. Don't take small comments or distortions of perspective (eg seeing something reasonably sized as small) too seriously. Most readers of the review will come away being effected by all the compliments and probably will hardly notice the comment about the room being small. If you respond in an argumentative way to such small issues in a public way, you will come across to future potential guests as peevish.
Also, I would not recommend giving details about the guest's scheduling and pet arrangements in a public review. It isn't necessary to tell the whole public that your guest had to live out of suitcases for a month, for instance, and I really don't recommend that you ever state publicly when you make an exception for a guest in your house rules, particularly with pets. You don't want to advertise that you allowed someone to have a pet when no pets is your general policy. THis could result in more demands for more exceptions to the no pet policy. "you did it for so and so, so why not for us?"

I truly appreciate all of this. I agree that it sounded peevish. I actually was feeling snarky when I wrote it. That's why I didn't post it. I guess I just wanted some validation. So thank you all

I agree with Deborah and think you made the right decision.
Please bear in mind, the Review Response is not supposed to be for the benefit of the guest, but rather for potential future guests viewing your listing. You may use it to correct or clarify inaccurate statements, but if you just want to communicate something to your guest it is much more appropriate to send them a private message.
And yes, a review that is overwhelmingly positive should certainly be left alone.

It is a lovely review and I think most potential guests eyes will glaze over after the first couple of sentences anyway. :-)
