Declining does it affect rating
I had a booking today from a woman .Then later today she contacted me thru her sons bnb asking for different dates in his name. She was saying she didn't want those dates ( the ones made on her sons site ) but was just trying to contact me regards her other booking as she couldn't see if it had gone thru at her end .I advised her that it had .My question is will it affect me if i don't respond further eg decline fake booking or even pre approve which i don't want to do as i know she doesn't want it .thanks

I am a little bit confused - however, make sure that you do not cancel anything. Have them (woman and son) cancel the incorrect booking and advise her that she needs to have her own account and book through her own account for the correct dates for herself.

From what I understand, it does not effect you if you do not decline her inquiry thru her son's account, but just leave it as messaging each other. It would effect you if you never responded to that inquiry through the son's account -- it is important to at least respond, but you don't have to preapprove or decline every inquiry.

Hi F&H - so you have a completed booking under her account, then she sent an inquiry using her son's account?
Agree with Deborah, however I'm not sure about the rules for your Airbnb experience. We've noticed that a few months ago UK hosts reported being required to either pre-approve or decline inquiries, but that they also recently may have removed that requirement.
We don't have a requirement to pre-approve or decline an inquiry in the US.
I would ask the woman to contact Airbnb regarding having trouble with her account, and I'd send a message to Airbnb about that reservation letting them know. Something sounds odd. Could not be a problem later, but if you let them know, you'll have a record of reporting it.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Was it an inquiry through the son's account, or a reservation request? Hopefully you don't have to do too many declines of either type...

Non-excessive declines made in the regular course of business do not impact the search weight of a host's listing.

That's good news Glen - my last four enquiries have been from 1) family of four with two children under five (listing notes we accommodate three people, and over 8 years); 2)someone using random dates they DIDNT want just in order to be able to send message checking whether my calendar booked out dates could possibly be available (!); 3) a request for price reduction in my already discounted prices 4) an enquiry for 'elderly parents' re accessibility of my flat ( the listing explicitly states it is unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems as its an ancient building, cobbles, uneven surfaces and on the third floor with no lift! Third party also an issue here.
I kept on getting prompted to Pre approve or decline - all I could do was decline all of these. Wah!! I hate to decline, but wish people wouldn't make impossible requests.
