Do guests need to clean up after themselves?
Hello! I'm a pretty new host, I just hosted my third group of guests and they left the apartment in what at first glance seemed okay, but then I found used tissues on the floor of all of the rooms, just a lot of dirt on floors and tables after only staying there for three days and they had spilled coke on living room floor without cleaning it up. Is this okay guest behavior? Should I mention it in the comment I leave?

I just had a guest like this! It's a mixed bag. Most of mine are clean, but a few are slobs. My most recent guest I will mention it to him in the private comments.

Hi Arianna, I don't see anything in the guest expectations in the help section about keeping the listing clean. It does say to follow the house rules. You would think that common sense would tell them to pick up their trash and clean up spilled Coke.
I don't charge a cleaning fee so in my house rules I mention that and ask the guest to keep it clean in return and in the note I leave on their checkout day to please leave it as they found it.
You can give them low stars for cleanliness, but currently those ratings are not seen by anyone. I have begun leaving reviews for my guests that state how many stars I give them for each of the categories in the reviews and if they are recommended I include that as well. I also include the month and year because it seems that has disappeared.
I don't think I would mention specifics in the review, but I would definitely include them in the private feedback to the guest so they know not to do this at the next host's listing.

No, it is not okay.
Yes, you should include it in your review.
I think it is likely that your standards match those of most hosts (I can't imagine anyone wanting guests to leave trash wherever it happens!) and it will help us all for you to "school" them and give future hosts a heads up that they "left trash and spilled drinks".

Thank you all for your very helpful comments. I will tell my guests in private and in the stars that this was not okay, and in my public review I will be kinder but I will not write that I recommend her. And Julie & Eric that's a great idea about not taking a cleaning fee but expecting they leave a neat home in return. Thank you!

Well said Sheryl. Public reviews have to be honest. I personally read a guests reviews before deciding to let them book or not. I would mention in your public review the guest was nice but very messy leaving trash and spilled food/drink in your apartment. Then in the private review leave specifics ie dirty tissues, spilled coke. If public reviews are not an honest reflection of the guests stay, why even have reviews?
