The Vomit People
(That's what we call them now, lol). For you guys wondering, The Vomit People declined our claim but Airbnb put it right through, then Vomit People left a review last night. But it seems their review is gone now (Airbnb probably removed it as it was most likely more vomit).I did the right thing and left an honest review for them...though it doesn't seem to be showing up, at least not yet..or maybe Airbnb blocked us from reviewing each other?Well, here's what I submitted. Tried to end it on a good note, lol!
Not your typical Airbnb guests. They assured us they were "all responsible married couples". But they were not. Their extra guests were rude and dismissive upon arrival. They were unreachable during their stay and would not respond to text. Not even once. They also ignored a written note. They broke rule after rule. Touched and moved many instruments (house rule: do not touch instruments). Moved and knocked over art and art supplies (house rule: do not touch art). Drove fast on driveway (house rule: drive slowly). Super loud, yelling in the morning outside which actually woke us up, and probably our neighbors too (house rule: don't be too loud). They left blood on the sheets and didn't even tell us or leave a note about it (C's wife Joy even admitted she knew of the blood and didn't clean it or tell us -any responsible person would have cleaned it or informed us).All of this actually could have been overlooked, but then we saw and smelled the big pile of disgusting vomit in our Zen Rock Garden. This decorative rock garden with moss, succulents and flowers is *right next* to the house as an entrance piece and obviously not a place to vomit.
The psychological trauma of finding stinking vomit just being left in our Zen Garden also ruined our day and hours of time.We contacted them, they admitted to leaving the vomit there and acted like it was ok, saying they didn't break house rules of no drunkeness - they said it was from food poisoning - as if that somehow made it ok to just leave it in our Zen Rock Garden. (Poison barf, even worse to leave). We explained that it was not ok, we don't even have a cleaning fee for normal cleaning, much less piles of vomit in a very hard to clean place. We graciously offered to let them come back (well AFTER checkout) and clean it themselves with our cleaning tools and supplies for only a $25 cleaning supply/supervision/late checkout fee. They declined and told us to put in a claim through Airbnb, acting perfectly entitled to leave us with their putrid disgusting vomit damaging our property. The whole experience was horrible. We felt lied to, taken advantage of, disrespected and vomited on. We work very hard to provide a wonderful sanctuary and go above and beyond for our guests, and are very understanding and accommodating, but this is just unacceptable, no host deserves piles of vomit ruining their Zen Rock Garden. Other than that, they were nice people.

I love the final flourish. Well written. I sure hope this review isn't deleted from Airbnb. I'm so not down for dealing with guests like this. I rely on the review process, although let's face it... with a review like that, if I was the guest I'd want to create a new identity.

Dear C, I am so sorry that happened to you. What awful people. Your place looks lovely, so many little details in your photos! I too hope that Airbnb will publish both reviews. Is it possible that after the people left their review, they decided to edit it, and therefore it's not visible yet?
But the thing I like best is the statement at the bottom of the photo of the bathroom, saying that because you don't like waste, you wash the soap between guests. I think that is a GREAT idea (not just doing that, but SAYING that you do that. I have had the "soap dilemma" ever since I started hosting, and usually provide a new tiny guest soap for each guest, which I end up using myself, but I can't keep up with them!

We also have a note in the shower saying we wash the soap, so no one gets grossed out by used soap. I am pretty OCD about needlessly wasting stuff - ok, very OCD, heh! We also provide liquid soap & body wash but it seems many prefer bar soaps. Funny- our guests we checked in tonight brought us a cute little present: handmade bar soaps!

Airbnb will almost certainly NOT post your review. They wouldn't want to deal with the potential defamation lawsuit. While your review may be accurate (I am sure it is) there's just no way of knowing and the "guests" could file a suit. It's just not worth it to them. My guess is they will delete the review and leave the "Not Recommended" thumbs down for them OR just drop them as guests for not following house rules. What do the rest of you think?

Huh? What are you talking about?
Reply
Yeah, I wasn't sure what was defamatory either. I probably wouldn't have gone into such detail as I prefer a concise review like "Many house rules were broken, communication was not heeded, guests were rather unclean - we do not recommend them."

Although I would have probably written something like the long one first, and enjoy reading it.

I love the title of your post, "The Vomit People"!!
The creative storyteller in me is inspired, imagining all sorts of strange tales of otherworldly beings or monsters that may come under this heading -- indeed I begin to see their deformed shapes lurching down deserted alleyways already in my mind's eye.
But wait ... Yours happens to be a literal tale, not a fairy tale, though -- which actually makes it surreal! It's the Martian Vomitoids, come to life in the mountains of __________!
A deplorable species, they. Instead of the flowers, aromatic herbs or small stones which are the typical offerings of gratitude and devotion acceptable at Zen Rock gardens, where the Zen Deities and Faeries live (all well tended gardens have Otherworldly beings in them), these execrable Vomitoids left their stinking refuse, piles of poisonous offal! Which was but a metaphor, a symbol, of their whole vulgar visit, and the disrespect that seemingly attended each aspect of their stay at your mountain home!
Suffice to say, the blessings of the Zen-minded Fey, shall not be with these Vomit People along their way, so besmirched now are they, Airbnb review or nay, I see them disappearing now in the distance, Miss Karma she's kicking them down along the highway.

The review isn't showing up. I guess we're blocked from reviewing each other.... So as hosts, we can't post bad reviews and need to just be weary of people with no reviews?

Has it been 14 days? We hosts should always strive to leave accurate reviews, definitely!

They stayed on May 1. Tomorrow will be 14 days.

If they checked out May 1, tomorrow should be 14 days. I guess we'll know by Saturday!
