SEe the article: www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2016/05/06/asheville-council-faces-cacophony-opinions-airbnb-short-term-rentals/84030482/ASHEVILLE - With a vote coming soon on the legalization of more tourist rentals in private homes, the City Council is hearing loud and varied advice on the issue that advocates on both sides say could have far-ranging economic and social effects. Wednesday, the council's main advisory body on such issues, the Planning and Zoning Commission, voted 5-2 against allowing residents to rent so-called "Accessory Dwelling Units" or ADUs to tourists or other short-term visitors in residentially-zoned areas. The council will consider that recommendation and is set to make a final decision May 17. There is no clear majority among the several elected officials on whether to lift the ban and allow the rentals.
