Guests arrived late - not entirely their fault as although they had the address they followed a misleading map link provided by Airbnb. But, but - they hadn't read my host directions, hadn't made a note of my phone number and although they had messaged using the Airbnb app when leaving the airport, they didn't think to message me again via the app.
Anyway, none of this would've mattered at all if they hadn't arrived in a grumpy mood, clearly blaming me for them getting lost etc. I managed to turn it around, smiled a lot and apologised for the confusion, and they seemed happier by the time I left (my listing is for an entire apartment), but I really didn't warm to them. Happens occasionally, no big deal...
They also asked for a late check-out. 1pm instead of 11am. Even though this was kind of inconvenient, I said okay but they had to be out of the flat between 11am and 1pm to let my cleaners do their job, and return before 1pm, before the cleaners left, so the cleaners could lock up. I was also going there at 11am with a builder to discuss a small repair.
When I got there at 11am, I was kind of p1ssed off to find that they hadn't fully packed, had left washing up in the sink and bits of rubbish lying around. Toilet roll on the bedside table. Dining chairs scattered around the room. I made a pile of their stuff and put it in a corner (so that the cleaners could clean the floor). Again not a big deal but it just showed a surprising lack of consideration in the circumstances.
Then they messaged at 12.45pm to say they were running late. Could they come at 1.30pm instead to pick up their stuff. Again I said yes. No apology, no thank you.
I wasn't going to leave a review at all as I suspected they wouldn't bother. I also didn't want to prompt them, by writing a review myself, as I was pretty sure they'd have something suitably sour to say. Anyway, two days to go and they've left a review.
I guess I have a write a review now, but no idea what to say. I can't say anything personal. I think it would sound petty to go on about not fully packing up their stuff and not sticking to the 1pm checkout. They weren't horrific, awful guests, so I don't think other hosts need to be 'warned' as such, they just weren't very friendly or nice people essentially. Maybe they'd be different with a different host etc.
The old euphemism of 'Guest perhaps more suited to hotel accommodation' doesn't apply here. Anyone have a bland formula that hints at the lukewarm experience but isn't actually negative? I'm struggling as I invariably write super-positive reviews!
